Morschach is a small village on a sunny terrace above Lake Lucerne in the canton of Schwyz, and the Swiss Holiday Park is its largest tourist facility. It is a family resort set on the slope with open views toward the lake and the mountains of central Switzerland. The park is built around the idea of an all-in-one holiday: accommodation, activities and entertainment gathered in one place, which makes it popular with parents who want to stay put rather than spend the day on the road.
A resort like this has two main functions. The first is as a place to stay, with apartments and hotel-style rooms suited to families and groups. The second is as a leisure centre, with indoor and outdoor facilities for children and adults, including a water park and play areas that make wet or cold weather less of a problem. The idea is that the schedule can bend to the weather: if rain sets in, there are indoor options, and if the sun shines the grounds and surrounding hills are available.
The location adds a great deal. Morschach lies close to Brunnen, the lakeside town on the Lake Lucerne shoreline, and it is the starting point for walks along the slopes above the water. The village is also the gateway to the Stoos plateau, a car-free mountain village reached by funicular and cable car, and to the Fronalpstock, a summit famed for its view over the lake and the Alps. Boat trips on Lake Lucerne leave from nearby, and the Axenstrasse winds below with its tunnels and galleries along the shore.
For those arriving by train, the main line reaches Brunnen, and local buses connect with Morschach. The road up the hillside is short, and driving is possible too, though parking arrangements vary with the season.
Opening hours, prices and the range of activities change from season to season, so check the current programme before travelling. The park suits families with young children, who will be able to combine play, swimming and short walks, while the surrounding region offers more adventurous outings for those who want to explore beyond the resort fence.
