Museum Villa Dei Cedri

Museum Villa dei Cedri in Bellinzona is a cultural oasis set within a historic villa and lush gardens just outside the city center. Originally built in 1860 and remodeled in a Palladian style around 1920, the villa has been home to the museum since 1985. Its neoclassical architecture and tranquil park—featuring four distinct garden styles and a vineyard producing Merlot—make it a unique destination for art and nature lovers alike.

The museum’s collection focuses on art from Ticino, Lombardy, and Switzerland, spanning the late 19th century to the present. Highlights include works that trace the evolution from realism to symbolism, with pieces by artists such as Segantini and Grubicy de Dragon, as well as expressive and abstract works by regional talents. A significant portion of the collection is dedicated to works on paper, including monographic engravings by artists like Massimo Cavalli and Ubaldo Monico.

Villa dei Cedri is open Wednesday and Thursday from 2 pm to 6 pm, and Friday to Sunday (and public holidays) from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is CHF 12 for adults and CHF 8 for reduced categories, with free entry for children under 16, students, and select cardholders. While the building is not fully wheelchair-accessible, a stair-lift can be arranged with advance notice.
