Perched high above the village of Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland, the First Cliff Walk offers a thrilling perspective on the Swiss Alps. Opened in 2015, this steel walkway is fixed to the rock face just below the First summit station and ends in a viewing platform jutting out over the drop, facing the Eiger, the Schreckhorn and the Wetterhorn across the valley. The structure consists of a steel mesh floor and railings, allowing you to look straight down to the ground far below while feeling secure.

The Cliff Walk is free once you have reached First by gondola, but it can close in strong wind or heavy snow. The First gondola climbs from Grindelwald in stages via Bort and Schreckfeld and runs in both summer and winter, with breaks for maintenance.

Visitors often combine the Cliff Walk with other activities on the First plateau, such as the First Flyer zip line, the Mountain Cart and Trottibike scooter rides down to the village, or the easy hike to the Bachalpsee lake. Because the walkway is a popular spot, arriving early in the day is advisable to avoid crowds and secure the best weather conditions. The experience is designed for those seeking adventure and panoramic views, offering a unique way to connect with the dramatic alpine landscape. While the area features various restaurants and hotels, the primary focus remains on the natural beauty and the engineering feat of the walkway itself.
