Curzùtt is a small restored hamlet on the mountainside above Monte Carasso, on the edge of Bellinzona in Ticino. It belongs to the type of settlement that once dotted these slopes: a cluster of stone houses used by farming families for seasonal work, with terraces for crops, chestnut woods around and a long view over the valley. As agriculture declined and people moved to the towns, many such hamlets fell into disrepair, and Curzùtt’s buildings were later restored so that the place could be used again, for walkers, school groups and visitors.

The setting is the main attraction. Dry-stone walls, narrow lanes, stone roofs and small terraces survive, and the village has been kept as an example of the traditional building style of southern Switzerland. Chestnut woods surround the hamlet, giving shade in summer and rich colours in autumn, and the surrounding paths are part of a network of walking routes that cross the slopes above the valley. A cableway links Monte Carasso with Curzùtt, so the hamlet is easy to reach without a long climb, and it is a convenient starting point for a hike.

The best-known reason to visit is the Carasc Tibetan Bridge, the long suspension bridge that begins close to the hamlet and crosses the gorge toward Sementina. The walk across is an adventure, and Curzùtt is the natural starting point and rest stop. Beyond the bridge, trails lead to viewpoints, vineyards and other hamlets, and you can plan a loop that returns by a different route.

The hamlet has basic facilities for visitors, including a place to eat and accommodation aimed at groups and hikers, and it hosts occasional events during the year. Opening times, meal service and bookings vary, so check ahead if you plan to eat or stay, and do not rely on events being held on any particular day. The location is also quiet in the evening, which makes it a restful base for those who prefer a peaceful night to town.

Curzùtt suits hikers, families, groups and anyone who likes to see how traditional mountain settlements are being given a new life. Combine it with a visit to the castles of Bellinzona for a day that mixes medieval fortresses with rural heritage.
