Cathedral Treasure Museum (Domschatzmuseum Chur)

The Cathedral Treasure Museum (Domschatzmuseum Chur) is a cultural highlight in Chur, housed within the historic Baroque Episcopal Palace in the city’s court district. Just a short walk from the main train station, the museum offers visitors a rare glimpse into the rich ecclesiastical heritage of Switzerland’s oldest city. Opened to the public in 2020, the museum is fully accessible and recognized for its thoughtful presentation, earning a nomination for the European Museum of the Year Award in 2022.

Inside, the museum showcases two main collections: the actual treasure of Chur Cathedral—featuring ornate liturgical vessels, reliquaries, and medieval manuscripts—and a striking cycle of murals from 1543 that depict scenes of death and the afterlife. Informational flyers are available in five languages, and visitors can enhance their experience with an audio guide via the City E-Guide app, which is also suitable for visually impaired guests.

The museum is open from May to October, Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 17:00, and in winter from 14:00 to 17:00 (closed Mondays and in November). Admission is CHF 8 for adults, CHF 5 for concessions, and free for children under 16. Combo tickets with the Rhaetian Museum are available, and the Swiss Museum Pass is accepted.
