Alien-themed Bar (Chur)
Alien-themed bar designed by H.R. Giger in Chur
The Giger Bar in Chur is a striking destination for fans of science fiction and surreal art. Designed entirely by H.R. Giger, the Swiss artist behind the iconic visuals of the “Alien” film series, the bar immerses visitors in a biomechanical world. Every detail, from the arched ceilings to the skeletal chairs and textured walls, echoes Giger’s signature style, making the space feel like a scene from another planet. Originally planned for New York, the project found its home in Chur’s Kalchbuhl Centre after scheduling setbacks, and has since become a local landmark.
Stepping inside, guests are surrounded by Giger’s imaginative vision—organic curves, eerie lighting, and intricate designs that blur the line between art and architecture. The bar is a popular spot for both locals and travelers, whether you’re a dedicated fan of Giger’s work or simply curious about its unique atmosphere. While the menu features standard café and bar offerings, the true highlight is the immersive environment.
The Giger Bar is open Monday to Wednesday from 8:15 am to 7 pm, Thursday and Friday from 8 am to 8 pm, and Saturday from 8:15 am to 5 pm. It is closed on Sundays. There is no admission fee to enter. Located at Comercialstrasse 23, it’s easily accessible from Chur’s city center. For anyone interested in art, film, or unusual spaces, the Giger Bar offers a memorable and otherworldly experience.
