Parco Ciani

Parco Ciani is Lugano’s most beloved green space, stretching along the shores of Lake Lugano just a short walk from the city center. Covering about 63,000 square meters, the park is often called the city’s “green lung” and offers a peaceful retreat for both locals and visitors. Parco Ciani is divided into two distinct areas: near Villa Ciani, the landscape blends Italian and English garden styles, with manicured lawns, colorful flower beds, statues, and elegant fountains. This section is ideal for leisurely strolls or simply relaxing on a bench with lake views.

The park’s second area, extending from the jetty to the Cassarate River, has a wilder, more natural character. Here, winding paths lead through groves of oak, lime, plane, and maple trees typical of Ticino forests. Families appreciate the well-equipped children’s playground, while nature lovers enjoy the variety of local and exotic plants.

Within the park, visitors find several notable buildings, including the historic Villa Ciani, the Palazzo dei Congressi (convention center), the Cantonal Natural History Museum, and the Cantonal Library. Parco Ciani is open daily and free to enter, making it a favorite spot for picnics, reading, or lakeside walks.
