Naturama Museum Aarau

Naturama Museum in Aarau is a vibrant natural history museum dedicated to the landscapes, wildlife, and human history of the Aargau region. Conveniently located on Feerstrasse, just across from the Aarau train station, the museum has been a center for scientific discovery and education since its founding in 1811. Its modern exhibitions guide visitors through 8,000 years of regional history, from the age of dinosaurs and mammoths to today’s beavers, frogs, and local habitats.

The museum’s collections are both impressive and unique. Highlights include rare fossils, an extensive insect collection, and the scientifically significant “Herbarium Argoviense.” One of the star attractions is a preserved specimen of the extinct giant auk—a flightless seabird that vanished in 1844, with only about 80 specimens remaining worldwide.

Naturama is especially family-friendly, offering interactive exhibits, films, games, and a nature laboratory where visitors can engage their senses and curiosity.
