Knies Kinderzoo
Children’s zoo with 300 animals and Himmapan park
Knies Kinderzoo in Rapperswil-Jona is a family-friendly destination where visitors of all ages can get up close with a wide variety of animals. Located just a short walk from Rapperswil train station, the zoo features around 300 animals from 58 species, including monkeys, camels, rhinoceroses, ponies, and sea lions. Special highlights include the opportunity to feed or pet many of the animals, as well as unique experiences like riding ponies or observing giraffes from a dedicated terrace. The zoo is also home to two endangered species: the Asian elephant and the Rothschild giraffe.
A major attraction is the Himmapan elephant park, opened in 2015, which offers spacious habitats and interactive viewing areas. Children can enjoy the adventure playground, climbable artificial whale, and pirate ship, while the whole family can take a ride on the horse tram or the steam engine. The zoo’s lakeside restaurant lodge provides a scenic spot for a meal or snack.
Knies Kinderzoo is open daily, with hours varying by season—typically 9 am to 6 pm in summer and shorter hours in November. Admission is CHF 22 for adults and CHF 8 for children aged four and up, with group and accessibility discounts available. Whether you’re seeking an educational outing or a fun day with the kids, Knies Kinderzoo offers a hands-on, memorable experience in a relaxed lakeside setting.
