One-day Appenzell hike to the cliffside Aescher inn
A classic day in Appenzell focusing on the most famous hiking route in the region. The day begins with a scenic train ride to Wasserauen, followed by a cable car ascent to Ebenalp. Train to Wasserauen
Take the Appenzeller Bahnen train from Appenzell station to Wasserauen. The journey offers beautiful views of the rolling hills and traditional Swiss architecture.
Cable Car to Ebenalp
Board the cable car from Wasserauen up to Ebenalp. This short ride provides panoramic views of the Alpstein mountain range.
Hike to Äscher Restaurant
Start the hike from Ebenalp towards the Äscher. This is the most famous hike in Appenzell, taking you through alpine meadows and forests to the cliff-side restaurant. The trail is well-marked and takes about 2.5 hours including stops for photos.
Lunch at Äscher

Hike Back to Ebenalp
