MEG – Musée d’Études Genevoises

The Musée d’Études Genevoises (MEG) sits on Boulevard Carl‑Vogt 65 in the heart of Geneva, a short walk from the lake and the historic city centre. It welcomes visitors Tuesday to Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm; the ticket office opens a bit earlier, 10 am‑5:45 pm, and the on‑site Café du MEG serves coffee and light meals from 9:30 am to 6 pm.

The museum’s permanent exhibition, The Archives of Human Diversity, displays more than 1,000 objects that illustrate the everyday lives of over 100 cultures across several centuries, and entry is free for everyone under Switzerland’s “Free Entry to Museums” programme. Temporary exhibitions require a ticket—CHF 12 for adults, CHF 8 for retirees, students, unemployed, large groups (12 +), municipal employees, and visitors with disabilities; proof of status is needed at purchase. Reduced tickets can be collected at the museum desk or reserved by email.

Below the main hall, the Marie‑Madeleine Lancoux Library offers over 45 000 books and audiovisual items covering five continents; it is open Tuesday‑Friday, 11 am‑6 pm. MEG also hosts concerts, film cycles, workshops and guided tours, making it a lively cultural hub.
