Lake Geneva Promenade

The Lake Geneva Promenade in Montreux is a picturesque lakeside walkway that stretches for about 6 kilometers from Montreux to Villeneuve. Hugging the shoreline, the path remains within 10 meters of the water for most of its length, offering uninterrupted views of Lake Geneva’s shimmering surface and the dramatic backdrop of the Alps. The walk takes around 1 hour and 25 minutes at a relaxed pace, with only a gentle ascent, making it accessible for visitors of all ages.

One of the route’s highlights is Château de Chillon, a thousand-year-old castle perched on a rocky outcrop—Switzerland’s most-visited historic building and a source of inspiration for artists and writers like Rousseau and Victor Hugo.

The promenade also passes through Villeneuve, a lakeside town known for its traditional character, gastronomy, and wine culture. In Montreux itself, the lakeside is home to the famous statue of Freddie Mercury and hosts the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival each July, adding a lively cultural touch to the tranquil setting.
