Fraumünster (Zürich)

Fraumünster sits on Münsterhof 2 in Zürich’s Old Town, its distinctive green spire rising above the medieval streets. Founded in 853 AD by Louis the German, the church has evolved from a powerful abbey into a Reformed parish, and its crypt still displays the oldest remnants of the original Fraumünster foundation.

The church opens from 10 am to 6 pm in the summer (1 Mar – 31 Oct) and 10 am to 5 pm in winter (1 Nov – 28 Feb); the last entry is fifteen minutes before closing. On Thursdays between late June and early September the organ concerts fill the space with music, while Sunday services begin at 10 am, after which the interior reopens to visitors at noon.
